Following sales to Super RTL in Germany and Middle East Media, Discovery Asia has become the latest network to purchase the hit kids TV series.
Bushwhacked! – a new format for ABC and NITV – was created by North One (now Mint Pictures) and premiered on ABC3 in October 2012.
The series follows the adventures of two boys – one Indigenous, the other non-Indigenous – as they crisscross Australia in search of endangered wildlife and Aboriginal rites and rituals.
The 13 x 24-minute series, which is distributed by the Australian Children’s TV Foundation, will air on Discovery Kids across Asia in 2014.
“Bushwhacked shows off Australia’s unique wildlife and culture in a way that is equal parts exciting and intriguing and we’re really thrilled that children throughout Asia will be able to go on this fantastic journey through Discovery Kids,” said Jenny Buckland, Chief Executive Officer of the ACTF.
Charmaine Kwan, VP of programming at Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific, said: “Discovery Kids is all about letting children explore the natural world and igniting their curiosity,” she said. “Bushwhacked is a perfect complement to our schedules, bringing our school-age viewers on a journey of exploration and learning with Brandon and Kayne.”
Dan Goldberg, Head of Factual at Mint Pictures, said the news was very gratifying. “The international sales of Bushwhacked!, coupled with strong ratings in Australia, are testament to the quality of the series, both in terms of the storyline that fuses native wildlife with Indigenous culture and in terms of the production value across the series,” he said.
