Series 2 of Bushwhacked! – Mint Pictures’ smash-hit kids factual TV show – has been nominated for a BANFF Rockie Award in Canada.
The nominations, released last week, pit Bushwhacked! against the BBC’s ‘Absolute Genius with Dick and Tom’ as well as two Swedish shows, a Danish show and a Dutch show for best children’s non-fiction award.
The awards will be announced at the BANFF World Media Festival in Canada in June. The jury comprises TV heavyweights from around the world.
“This nomination is yet again vindication of the Bushwhacked! brand that has become so popular since season I,” said Dan Goldberg, executive producer for Mint Pictures. “We’re thrilled to be up alongside some of the best kids factual TV series.”
The nomination comes on the back of a similar nod from the prestigious Prix Jeunesse, which will be announced at the end of May.
Series 2 of the 13-part high-octane wildlife-meets-Indigenous culture series – featuring ABC3 host Kayne Tremills and Wuradjeri kid Kamil Ellis – premiered on ABC3 in March.
The critics have hailed it as “spirited, enlightening and entertaining fun,” with the Sydney Morning Herald declaring Kamil as the next Bindi Irwin. “Australian wildlife television has a new prodigy,” it declared.
Series 2 of Bushwhacked! has already been sold by the Australian Children’s TV Foundation to Super RTL in Germany and Discovery Asia, with screenings in more than 40 countries. Series I has also been sold to Super RTL and Discovery Asia, as well as networks in Jordan and Brunei, and Qantas in-flight entertainment.
