Two Mint Pictures productions have been nominated for the 2014 ATOM awards.
Brilliant Creatures: Germaine, Clive, Barry & Bob and Code of Silence were selected by the panel of judges last week.
Brilliant Creatures, a finalist for Best Factual TV series, follows the meteoric rise of four towering giants of Australian cultural life: feminist Germaine Greer, satirist Barry Humphries, writer and broadcaster Clive James and art critic Robert Hughes. Written and presented by Booker Prize winner Howard Jacobson, this two-part series is a co-production with Serendipity productions and was produced for BBC4 and ABC1.
Code of Silence, a finalist for Best Documentary (Social & Political Issues), follows the parallel journeys of a fervently Orthodox Jewish father and his now-secular son after the son breaks the code of silence in Melbourne’s Chabad-Lubavitch community and goes public with his story of being sexually abused as a student. It was a co-production with Identity Films for ABC1.
“We are thrilled to have been selected as a finalist for these two documentaries,” said Dan Goldberg, Mint’s Head of Factual. “While very different in style and content, they are both important stories that we were privileged to be able to tell.”
