Mint Pictures has been nominated for two awards at the annual Australian International Documentary Conference.

When the War is Over (5×30 for ABC), a Mint Pictures production in association with Magdalene Media, is a finalist for best documentary/factual series, and Toy Soldier (5×35 podcast), produced with CBC in Canada, is a finalist for best audio documentary.

When The War is Over follows art-lover Rachel Griffiths as she puts art to the ultimate test – one artwork and one war at a time.

Toy Soldier takes listeners on a deep dive into the staggering story of Melbourne’s Alex Kurzem who, as a child during WWII, faced a hideous choice: be killed or join the killers.

The other finalists in the factual category are Annabel Crabb’s Civic Duty (ABC); The Kimberley (Wild Pacific Media); The People Vs Robodebt (CJZ); and Revealed: Death Cap Murders (Dreamchaser).

The other finalists in the audio documentary category are Broken Trust (Guardian Australia); Fallout: Spies on Norfolk Island (SBS); and Skase: Fall of a Tycoon (ABC Radio).

The AIDC Southern Light Award is to be shared by Karla Hart and Simon Nasht.

The winners will be announced at the AIDC awards night on March 5.

When The War Is Over is streaming on ABC iView.
