Bushwhacked! – the smash hit kids’ TV series created by Mint Pictures – picked up a silver award at the Chicago International Film Festival and has been sold to a fifth international territory. Series I of the 13-part wildlife-meets-Indigenous culture show was awarded a silver plaque for best children’s TV series at the 2013 Chicago International Film Festival’s TV awards. Dance Academy series II won the gold plaque.
Bushwhacked! has now been bought by a network in Brunei, along with Super RTL in Germany, Discovery Asia, and Middle East Media in Jordan as well as Qantas in-flight entertainment. “We are humbled and thrilled by the continuing success of Bushwhacked!,” said Mint Pictures Head of Factual Dan Goldberg. “And we are excited to be in formal development on series III, which we hope will continue the success of the Bushwhacked! brand.”
Bushwhacked! series II – hosted by Kayne Tremills and Kamil Ellis – has also been selected as a finalist for best children’s TV series at the prestigious Prix Jeunesse awards in Munich in June, and was nominated as best children’s TV series and best factual series at the 2013 ATOM awards .
Series II, which premiered on ABC3 in March, has already been sold to Discovery Asia and Super RTL. The Sydney Morning Herald described it as “spirited, enlightening and entertaining”. It airs on ABC3 on Fridays at 7.30 and encores on Sundays at 3.30 and has been a ratings hit since it premiered in early March.
Bushwhacked! follows the high-octane adventures of the two boys as they search for endangered wildlife and learn about Aboriginal culture. It is distributed internationally by the Australian Children’s TV Foundation.
Series II was funded by ABC3, ACTF, Screen NSW, Screen Queensland and the Pratt Foundation.
