Finding The Archibald, the three-part series on the centenary of the Archibald Prize hosted by Rachel Griffiths, has been selected as a finalist in the Screen Producers Australia awards for Documentary Series of the Year.
The Mint Pictures production for the ABC in association with Magdalene Media was one of the 11 documentary programs or series selected, includingRevelation, See What You Made Me Do and Old People’s Home For Four Year Olds.
It followed art lover and acclaimed actor Rachel Griffiths on her cultural romp through 100 years of Archie portraits as she searched for one artwork that stood the test of time and said something profound about who we are as Australians.
Finding The Archibald accrued an average audience of 887,000 viewers (broadcast and ABC iView) and was the highest-rated arts and cultural show ever made available on the ABC’s digital streaming platform.
It was directed by Ariel White, produced by Lucille Schnierer, series produced by Dan Goldberg and executive produced by Adam Kay and Rachel Griffiths.
The SPA Awards will be presented on the final night of the Screen Forever conference, on March 30, at the Star Event Centre, Gold Coast.
Voting is open until November 8.
Mint Pictures won the SPA Documentary of the Year award in 2016 for Strictly Jewish, which aired on SBS as part of the Untold Australia strand.
