The Archibald, a visually stunning four-part series on Australia’s most iconic arts prize, will premiere on Foxtel Arts on September 12.
Two years in the making, The Archibald follows eight artists in their bid to win the 2017 prize.
The cast includes three former Archibald Prize winners, two People’s Choice winners, a Packing Room Prize winner, serial finalists and a rising star who has never been a finalist before.
Their sitters include Australia’s most infamous whistleblower, the outgoing president of the Australian Human Rights Commission and a Hollywood star.
Set against the 96-year history of the Archibald, replete with scandals and controversies, The Archibald is in a sense a portrait of the 2017 prize.
Shot on four continents, in five countries – including Afghanistan – and across six months, the series has exclusive access to the judging process, revealing for the first time on TV how the 11 trustees determine who wins the most coveted and controversial arts prize in Australia.
The Archibald is produced by Mint Pictures exclusively for Foxtel, with major investment from Screen Australia.
Adam Kay is Executive Producer, Dan Goldberg is Director & Series Producer and Seema Khanna is Producer.
