Mint Pictures’ latest production, The Jewish ‘Nazi’?, has been nominated for feature documentary of the year.

The nomination from Screen Producers Australia comes as the feature documentary was premiered this week across Australia, with packed audiences in Sydney and Melbourne for the closing night of the Jewish International Film Festival.

The film is a gripping true crime-esque investigation into whether the story of The Mascot – a young Jewish boy who was captured by a Nazi battalion in 1942 and made their toy soldier – was in fact true or a Holocaust hoax.

It follows the quest across the globe in a bid to solve the mystery of The Mascot and find his real name. What unfolds is the rollercoaster story, along the way revealing multiple false identities, a family reunion that wasn’t and a DNA revelation with a blistering sting in the tail.

‘The Jewish Nazi?’ is up against seven other feature documentaries. The winners will be announced at the Screen Forever conference next March on the Gold Coast.

It will screen on SBS in 2024 as part of its premium ‘Australian Uncovered’ strand of single documentaries. It was financed by SBS, Screen Australia, Screen NSW and Abacus Media Rights
